The Northern Wisconsin Beef Producers Association (NWBPA) Board would like to invite you to become a member, but first let us share who we are.
Our association began in 1948, and today is comprised of cow/calf operators, feedlots, seedstock producers, backgrounders, and many industry professionals.
We are an educational cooperative and our goal is to keep the most up-to-date information available to our members and to promote the beef industry while bridging the gap between the producer and consumer. We, as an association, strive to share all that the beef industry has to offer with current and future generations. Not all of us work in the cattle business because it's our job, but because it's a way of life and we love it!
We continue to listen to our members and find new ways to support each other in the face of an ever-changing agricultural environment. Membership to NWBPA includes access to 3 events throughout the year, quarterly newsletters, a listing in future directories (if you are a current member at the time of printing), and networking with various operations and professionals.
Our year starts off with our Winter Rendezvous and luncheon in January. We have educational presentations followed by a beef luncheon, our annual meeting, election of board members, presentation of the “Friends of Beef Producers” Award, and a fun-auction. Auction funds are used to support club activities throughout the year and help with operating expenses to keep membership fees low. At our winter rendezvous, we are opening vendor tables for a nominal fee of $25. Vendors will be given time to socialize with members and present themselves to the group.
In 2019, member networking helped us determine that major opportunities for our members were in genetic improvements and private marketing, while challenges included high feed costs, profit, aging facilities, and regulation. The networking activity helped NWBPA determine that we can better support our members through more networking opportunities, feed and equipment ads among members, educational material, and social media. Because of this, we revamped our quarterly newsletters in 2019 to utilize the industry professionals that support NWBPA and provide the association with more educational articles seasonally. Members are encouraged to email us at [email protected] to have their feed, equipment, and livestock sales posted to our website or through our quarterly newsletters.
In May/June we host a summer picnic and farm tour, ideally at a member farm. This has been a unique opportunity to network and catch-up with friends. It has opened the conversation among members to discuss their operations and share their knowledge. Currently, we have an annual raffle in conjunction with the summer picnic.
Each October we host ‘Kids and Cows Family Day’ at the Barron County Fairgrounds in Rice Lake. This is a unique opportunity for youth and adults of all ages and experience levels to learn about the beef industry and show halter broke cattle that are loaned by NWBPA members to showmen for the day. In 2020, we had over 100 head of cattle and 130 kids participate – a new record for the show and further solidifying the desire of future generations to be involved in the beef industry.
In addition to events, the association puts together a member directory every few years. We last printed new color directories in fall of 2019 and are happy to share this amazing network with you.
Yearly dues are $30. We have maintained low membership dues independent of individual or family registration. Membership will get you access to the events listed above, quarterly newsletters, sales ads through our website and newsletter, and our color directory.
We hope you will consider becoming a member of NWBPA. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you and continue advancing the beef industry in Northern Wisconsin.
